Manchester United have decided to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjær immediately, following the humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford. The third straight defeat in the Premier League proved to be the final straw for the board to make the call.

After a five-hour meeting about the future of the Norwegian, United have finally decided to fire Solskjær. The decision has been approved by Joel Glazer, and will be announced soon.

Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher are expected to be in charge of the first team until a suitable replacement is found. Solskjær signed a three-year contract in the summer, which runs until 2024. He will be paid a fee around £7.5 million as a severance package from Manchester United.

Watford’s performance against Manchester United was remarkable, and they scored two goals in injury time to seal the deal. Harry Maguire was sent off in the 70th minute, and a solitary fighting chance was thrown away when Watford conceded the third goal.

“It was embarrassing, the way we played today,” David De Gea said. “The first half was very poor, it’s not acceptable for this club and the level of players that we have. It’s another nightmare. There’s been some difficulties but I don’t really know what to say.

“I have been in difficult moments with this club but we are in a difficult situation. We don’t know what to do with the ball, we are conceding a lot of goals. It’s a horrible moment.”

Zinedine Zidane is among the names rumoured to take up the Manchester United job. But it remains to be seen who the board appoint at this stage in the season.
