Benjamin Mendy of Manchester City has been charged with two more counts of rape according to the police. He now faces six allegations of rape and one of sexual assault, adding to his previous record.
Mendy has been asked to appear at the Stockport Magistrates’ Court on 17th November. He is currently in prison and has been refused bail by the court. The footballer is due to stand in court on January 24th for the case.
The charges against Benjamin Mendy were placed in August, and he was suspended by the club shortly after. They released the following statement about the situation of their player soon:
“Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.
“The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete.”
Mendy arrived in England for £52 million in 2017 from Monaco, and has since made 50 Premier League appearances for Manchester City. The last time he played for the club was on 15th August, when Manchester City lost 1-0 to Tottenham.
The previous allegations correlate to three different women, one under the age of 18. All these cases occurred in his home at Cheshire.
Manchester City have also stopped selling products with his image on them. In fact, searching for Mendy or Benjamin Mendy leads you back to the home page of the club.
