Sergio Ramos is expected to join training with PSG next week, after battling a long-term calf problem. The Real Madrid legend joined PSG this summer as a free agent. He has signed a two-year deal with them, but is yet to make his debut for the new club.
Recently, there were rumours of PSG willing to tear up the defender’s contract if his fitness issues continued. The board would have needed to reach a mutual agreement with the player if they really had to terminate his contract. Ramos has collected £4 million as salary already at his new club, without kicking a ball. He is entitled to a wage worth £250,000 every week.
Now, PSG have confirmed in their medical report that Ramos will be joining his teammates next week. This means that we can expect his Ligue 1 debut against Nantes on November 20.
The last time Sergio Ramos appeared in a game in the Champions League was in May against Chelsea in the second leg of the semi final. The Real Madrid defender has now spent six months without an appearance in the top flight of Europe.
The 35-year-old could make his return to European football a few days after the game against Nantes, when PSG will face Manchester City. With Presnel Kimpembe battling a hamstring issue as of late, the return of Ramos could be a welcome addition to the squad for Mauricio Pochettino, and could help the team become more defensively resolute.
