Barcelona have currently appointed Sergi Barjuan as the interim manager of the club. Their main focus is to bring Xavi Hernandez to the club as the new manager. Joan Laporta sacked Ronald Koeman after Barcelona’s loss against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.
The board has also mentioned an ‘expiry date’ for his tenure as the manager of the first team.
Here is what the club had to say about the appointment on their official website:
“Barcelona hereby announces that Sergi Barjuan, the current coach of Barça B, shall be taking provisional charge of the technical management of the senior squad. His interim position as first team head coach shall end as soon as the club has hired a full-time head coach to replace the dismissed Ronald Koeman.”
The full-time head coach in consideration is Xavi, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Barcelona are working to bring their former midfielder back to the club from Al-Sadd. The Spaniard has been coaching in the Middle East for a few years now and has been quite successful.
Xavi has accepted the proposal from Joan Laporta, and the contract termination process with Al-Sadd is underway. Once the formalities have been taken care of, the reign of Xavi as the new first team manager will begin. Laporta has stated that he has a good relationship with Xavi and has mentioned that he wants to see the former midfielder in charge of the first team.
And after sorting out the managerial position, the board will turn their attention to the contract renewals of Ousmane Dembele, Gavi and Ronald Araujo.
