Barcelona scored their first goal and achieved their first victory of the new Champions League season as they beat Dynamo Kyiv in a do or die fixture. Had the Catalonian club lost the game, they would have been unable to make it out of their group.
But now, they have a fighting chance but must try to win their remaining games in the group stage to be assured that they will advance. Gerard Pique scored the only goal of the game, as he fired a volley past Bushchan to give the home team the lead.
Camp Nou was sparsely populated despite the crucial nature of the game. Pique’s goal helped the stadium breathe a sigh of relief and gave them something positive from the Champions League after losing to Benfica and Bayern Munich without scoring a single goal.
Barcelona managed to hold on to the one goal lead throughout the sixty remaining minutes of the game, and ended up earning three points as a result. However, they must repeat the win against Kyiv when they face them at home. The upcoming fixtures will be crucial in laying down Barcelona’s season ahead since they might not make it out of the group stages if they lose.
Barcelona are not well off in La Liga either, as they are outside of the top four places and face a big test this weekend in the El Clasico against Real Madrid. Los Blancos are one of the best attacking sides in Europe right now, with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm.
