Rahul Dravid’s affiliation with the Indian cricket team is poised to continue after he was just reportedly hired as the team’s head coach. On Friday night, Rahul Dravid, who was one of the BCCI’s guests for the IPL 2021 final, was confirmed for the post.

Rahul Dravid’s contract is set to expire in 2023. He will take up the position following the conclusion of the T20I World Cup 2021, which will take place in November. The former batsman is currently the director of the National Cricket Academy; however, he will step down before becoming India’s head coach. After his contract expires, Ravi Shastri will stand down as coach.

According to the report, new coach Rahul Dravid has been offered a lucrative deal of around Rs 10 crore. He is one of the highest-paid Indian coaches with this salary. Paras Mhambrey will join the new coach as bowling coach, while Vikram Rathour will remain as batting coach, according to the report.

Paras Mhambrey has worked with the former batting and skipper at the U-19 level and has also accompanied him to Sri Lanka. He was also the head coach of the India U-19 cricket team, which advanced to the 2020 World Cup final.

Rahul Dravid has accepted to become the coach of the Indian senior team, which will be announced on Friday during the IPL 2021 final, in one of the most significant developments in Indian cricket. The development occurred in Dubai when BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah met with Rahul Dravid and encouraged him to become the Indian team’s coach following the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Ravi Shastri will be replaced by Rahul Dravid, and Bharat Arun will be replaced by Paras Mhambrey. However, there is no indication on who will replace fielding coach R Sridhar. Team India will most likely play three ICC competitions shortly under Rahul Dravid’s leadership. A T20 World Cup will be held next year, followed by a 50-over ODI World Cup in 2023. In addition, the World Test Championship final is slated for 2023.

Rahul Dravid will be training with Team India for the third time this year. His first assignment was as a batting consultant for the Test series in England in 2014. He reappeared as interim head coach in July 2021 while Ravi Shastri’s coaching team was in England.

In his illustrious career, the former batsman played 164 Tests, 344 ODIs, and 1 T20I. He is an ICC Hall of Famer. He has also served as a coach for the India A squad, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals. India will play New Zealand in a full series at home beginning November 17, three days after the T20 World Cup final in Dubai.
