If we hear the news of a video game getting a film and television adaptation then the only thing that comes to our mind is that the production is going to be messed up and we will get another trash film at our hands.
However there have been few diamonds in the rough such as the Netflix originals The Witcher and Castlevania, and it seems that the recent success of such titles is reportedly inspiring Epic Games to produce a Fortnite movie. Man, I see another disaster at the horizon.
According to sources, Epic Games may be reportedly looking to expand its reach to Hollywood and is considering a Fortnite movie adaptation. Reports suggest that the game company wants to “diversify” in the face of ongoing legal costs which the company has to bear with its ongoing antitrust lawsuits against Apple and Google.
Lucasfilm’s former vice president of Physical Production, Jason McGatlin, is now Epic’s president of Special Projects and this gives an idea that Epic is pretty serious about its Fortnite film project.
The game developer also tapped Lucasfilm’s former VP of Production Finance, Chris Furia, and Lynn Bartsch, former Lucasfilm business and legal affairs boss, to reprise their roles in Epic’s new division.
It’s hard to imagine what a Fortnite movie will look like, the game has 18 seasons of lore to pull from, and there have been some originals such as an evil commando Santa Claus in Season 7, and a black hole that devoured the entire map in Season 10.
Then we also have some crossover events including DC and Marvel superheroes, Stranger Things, John Wick, the Predator, and even Halo’s Master Chief.
