Apple’s upcoming 12.9-inch OLED iPad Pro lineup to have display panels manufactured by LG instead of Samsung

Earlier we heard a report that Apple will be launching its 12.9-inch OLED iPad Pro line earliest by 2023, and best of all, the device will support LTPO technology. And now, we have some additional information regarding the device that LG Display will be undertaking orders for Apple and also that the mass production of the display is expected to start between the end of 2023 and 2024.

According to sources, LG Display will be handling orders for Apple though usually, it would have been Samsung which was Apple’s preferred company to source high-quality panels from. However, reports suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant had an apparent falling out with the Korean manufacturer, at least for a future iPad Air panel.

iPads are kept for much longer periods than iPhones, so it was inevitable that Apple could not keep its one-time deal with Samsung over several years thus,  LG is reportedly developing a double-stack OLED panel structure.

Although there are reports that LG might not be getting much out of the venture in terms of profit generation, so this deal could very well be a move to appease Apple and secure future orders, thereby putting a dent in the number of orders Samsung receives from Apple.

The South Korean tech giant, Samsung Electronics is expected to supply OLED iPad Pro panels, but the number of orders secured was not discussed in the report. In the next generation of iPad Pro, we could see the device’s panel featuring the same Gen 6 substrates as the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max while also supporting LTPO TFT technology.

This could mean that the premium tablet could dynamically switch its refresh rate between 10Hz-120Hz depending on what was being displayed. This will lead to exceptional battery life conservation.
