The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revealed on Tuesday that all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of both the IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup, dealing a major blow to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and England Cricket Team.

Curran was injured in the lower back during CSK’s encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday, October 2. He complained of back ache and was brought for scanning right away. The results verified his lower back issue, preventing him from competing in the two main championships.

He is currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but will return to the UK in the next two days. The ECB’s medical team will keep an eye on his injuries and order more scans. They’ll also conduct a thorough investigation by the end of the week to establish the severity of the injuries.

Tom Curran has been drafted into England’s T20 World Cup team as a replacement. Reece Topley has also been picked as one of the reserves who will accompany the group on their trip.

Due to bio-bubble fatigue, several English players have withdrawn from the IPL 2021 season. On Tuesday morning, the cricketers and team management landed at the team’s camp in Muscat, Oman. They will stay in Oman until October 16 before departing for the T20 World Cup in Dubai.

After hearing the news, Sam Curran left a touching message. Especially while living inside a stringent bio-bubble, he valued the time he spent with the CSK players during the difficult pandemic years. Curran added that he will continue to support his side and watch the games.

Curran had a strong start to the IPL 2021 season, but the shift of venues did not work in his favor. He had a difficult second phase in the UAE, as he was often overlooked in favor of Dwayne Bravo.
