Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat in the 21/22 Bundesliga season at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. The visitors managed to pick up a 2-1 victory at the Allianz Stadium, their first win at Bayern in over 20 years. The German giants failed to extend their one-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table with the critical game as well.
Robert Lewandowski smoothly played in Leon Goretzka at the half-hour mark to give the home team the lead. However, the visitors would respond shortly after as Martin Hinteregger netted for Frankfurt on the opposite end three minutes later, assisted by Filip Kostic.Â
Late in the game, Kostic got himself onto the scoresheet as he scored the winner for his team. He started off the attack by nutmegging Bayern centre-back Dayot Upamecano, and cut back inside to fire the ball past Manuel Neuer at a difficult angle. Despite having around ten minutes left to play, the time was not enough for Bayern to answer back.
Bayern had the ball for the majority of the game, with a third of the total possession in their favour. Half of their 20 shots were on target, but only one goal came of it. On the other hand, Frankfurt had five total shots with three on target, and two of them resulted in goals for the visiting team.
After a series of five consecutive draws in the Bundesliga, Frankfurt finally have their first win of the season in arguably the most difficult fixture of the campaign.
