Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has had his Champions League ban extended for another game, after missing out on the home fixture against Europa League winners Villarreal.

The player was sent off in the 35th minute for a rough tackle on Christopher Martins Pereira in United’s first Champions League game of the season against BSC Young Boys. They would go on to lose the game after the Swiss club snatched a late goal with the numbers advantage to take all three points.

Here is what Ole Gunnar Solskjær had to say about the dismissal of the England international: “I can understand why he gives it. Aaron is normally a very astute tackler, one of the best in the world, but he takes a touch that goes too far. It’s never a dangerous tackle because he hits him in the front of his foot.

“We saw with Harvey Elliot that you sometimes can see bad injuries, but it was never reckless or malicious. Maybe inexperience to go through without the ball, but the boy wasn’t going to be injured. And it makes a difference after that with 10 men.”

Diogo Dalot is the natural replacement for Wan-Bissaka now that he has been banned from the Champions League for another match. The Portuguese full-back spent the previous season on loan at AC Milan and had a successful brief spell with them. He now has the chance to impress the boss in the game against Villarreal and Atalanta next.
