Takefusa Kubo – the Japanese Messi, has joined RCD Mallorca on a season-long loan in search for regular first-team minutes.
Takefusa Kubo was previously at Barcelona’s academy and has been dubbed the ‘Japanese Messi’. Barcelona tried to sign him in 2014 but had their efforts curtailed by a FIFA ban. The 18-year-old is considered as one of Asia’s most exciting young talents. He made his full Japan debut last July. Kubo was a part of the Japan squad for the Copa America 2019.
Real Madrid signed Kubo from FC Tokyo this summer for €2m. Kubo agreed on a five-year deal which included a salary of €1m per season. The winger featured for Madrid during their pre-season tour of the United States and Germany. But he has not been deemed ready to join Zinedine Zidane’s first-team squad.
Takefusa Kubo has now officially joined RCD Mallorca on a season-long loan. There is no option-to-buy included in the deal. So Kubo will definitely return to the Bernabeu next summer.
Despite the cruciate ligament injury suffered by Marco Asensio, the 18-year-old is understood to have pushed for regular football elsewhere. He wants to improve on his first-team experience, which would prove very crucial in the long run of his career.
