Razer Huntsman V2 gaming keyboard announced with an 8000Hz polling rate

Razer today announced a new lineup of Huntsman keyboards. Appropriately named “Huntsman V2,” the new lineup is comprised of both a full-sized keyboard and a tenkeyless model. Razer says that the Huntsman V2 is the “world’s fastest keyboard,” thanks to its optical switches and the inclusion of the company’s HyperPolling technology, but the Huntsman V2 also seems to make some improvements to acoustics as well.

Specifically, Razer says that the Huntsman V2 uses 2nd-gen linear optical switches outfitted silicone sound dampeners that muffle the clack of each key. Razer’s optical switches are unique compared to traditional gaming keyboards, as they use an infrared light beam to activate the switch. Because of this, there’s no debounce delay, something mechanical keyboards usually have to ensure that each signal activation is an actual key press.

Razer also took customizability to the next level with the multi-function media dial and keys. These can be programmed to be whatever you need them to be, whether that’s moving a cursor, running a macro, or just controlling music and volume. The dial also features an RGB center ring powered by Razer’s Chroma RGB software, which ties in with the rest of the keyboard.

Razer says this allows the keys to respond even faster, and to go along with that, the Huntsman V2 comes with an 8000Hz polling rate, meaning it can check for any user action 8000 times per second to reduce input delay even further. Razer already had a mouse with an 8000Hz polling rate, which was fittingly named the Viper 8KHz, so it’s not too surprising to see it come to keyboards.

The Razer boasts “near-zero latency” as a result, though we’re not sure how much of a real difference that will make for anyone who isn’t a pro gamer. In addition, the full-sized Huntsman V2 comes with a dial that sits above the number pad, along with four media keys. The Razer Huntsman V2 is now available at $189.99. There is an additional price for several other accessories like the optical red switches which are priced at $10.
