Fiorentina have agreed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira on an initial loan deal for €1.5 million.

The Serie A club will have the option to buy Torreira once the loan deal is completed for €15 million. The player will wear the number 18 shirt at Fiorentina, as announced by the club, and will be a key figure as they hope to finish in the top half of the league after finishing 13th last year.

The player spent the 20/21 season out on loan at Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, where he helped the Rojiblancos win the La Liga title for the first time in seven years. Torreira made 26 appearances for the Spanish club before returning to Arsenal. However, Mikel Arteta does not favour the Uruguayan ahead of the other options available to him, and as a result, Arsenal have decided to move him on.

The Gunners have let go of Joe Willock, David Luiz, William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi already, and could have Willian depart for Corinthians as well.

Fiorentina are also interested in signing Real Madrid right-back Alvaro Odriozola on a loan deal for the 21/22 season. According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have an agreement for the loan deal but Odriozola is yet to give the green light for the move to Italy. He is behind Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez in the pecking order, and could find regular game time in violet.
