Qualcomm will keep moving forward and will bring its Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC platform for the 2022 set of flagships. However, the first flagships sporting this platform may even appear before the end of 2021. Besides the Xiaomi Mi 12 series that is confirmed to come with the Snapdragon 898, Lenovo seems to be preparing its own flagship device to debut the new platform – The Lenovo Legion 3 Pro.

The Lenovo Legion 3 Pro is a future gaming smartphone that may be some months away from a release. However, this could not prevent the company’s General Manager in China to confirm that the device will use the Snapdragon 898 platform. More than that, the General Manager also headlined the “much-upgrade” GPU that will come with the upcoming chip.

Yesterday, Chen Jin, general manager of Lenovo’s cell phone business in China, said that the next-generation flagship phone equipped with Qualcomm SM8450 is moving forward in earnest, and developers are working in boredom. He revealed that the GPU of the new generation flagship will be upgraded greatly, so the Lenovo Legion 3 Pro gaming phone will maintain the industry’s top tuning capabilities, and the 8450’s performance ceiling is not unexpectedly still ours.

The new phone will probably have active cooling – the Legion 2 Pro (aka Duel 2) had two fans – which should keep the new Snapdragon chip running at top speed. This should avoid any throttling and allow the new chip to perform at its best.

The Lenovo Legion 3 Pro may also come with other cutting-edge technologies such as the newest LPDDR5X RAM standard. The device may be released earlier in the next year and become one of the first gaming smartphones with the SD898 CPU. Of course, the Legion 3 Pro moniker will remain exclusive to China. Across global markets, it will probably carry Lenovo Legion Duel 3 moniker.

The model of Qualcomm’s flagship processor, the listing naming has not yet been confirmed, it is said that it may be Snapdragon 898 or 895, using Samsung’s 4nm process to build. In terms of specifications, the CPU part will use Kryo 780 built on the ARMv9 instruction set, and the GPU is the new architecture 730.
