After being linked with Atletico Madrid, Rafa Mir is expected to join Sevilla from Wolves. The player was scouted heavily by Atletico and the full agreement was close, but the deal ultimately fell through.
Sevilla now have themselves an exciting young talent who has proven himself in La Liga. Mir spent the previous season on loan at Huesca and ended up scoring 16 goals in 39 games. As a result, he was called up to the Spanish Olympics team and helped them get to the finals where they managed to secure a silver medal.
Mir was one of the standout performers for La Roja as they came up short against Brazil. He is now set to become a permanent member of the Sevilla squad, and the club will pay Wolves €16 million. A five-year deal has been agreed between the striker and the Basque club, which will run until June 2026.
Joselu from Alaves was the target for Sevilla earlier in the window, but they could not arrange a move for him. They now have a great replacement for him, and Luuk De Jong could be under threat due to the arrival of Mir. The Dutchman is open to returning home to the Eredivisie and possibly represent PSV Eindhoven.
With ten days remaining in the transfer window, Sevilla have signed Erik Lamela and Gonzalo Montiez and have still managed to keep hold of Jules Kounde, which spells out a rather successful summer for them.
