We have seen intel’s upcoming Xe-HPG powered DG2 GPU leak online many times previously and this time is also the same. But, the recent leak suggests that Intel is testing a new variant for its upcoming discrete graphics card Xe-HPG powered DG2 GPU which clocks beyond 2 GHz. The card was spotted within the Geekbench database and was tested on an 11th Gen Desktop platform.

The DG2 GPU powered by the Xe-HPG architecture will be a desktop discrete graphics card since it was tested on a desktop platform comprising of an Intel Core i5-11400T CPU and an ASUS B560M-PLUS motherboard with 16 GB of DDR4-2133 memory.

Speaking about the specifications of the Xe-HPG DG2 GPU has 128 Execution Units for a total of 1024 cores. Even the fastest Xe-LP GPU, the Iris Xe Max, only has 96 EUs for a total of 768 cores and clocks up to 1.65 GHz. However, this new desktop GPU was running at clocks of up to 2.2 GHz and this is the first Intel GPU to break the 2.0 GHz barrier.

But unfortunately, even if the specifications and clock speeds of the GPU look great, the performance of the Intel Xe-HPG DG2 GPU isn’t that good. However, in this case, it’s obviously due to bad drivers. The OpenCL score of the GPU is 13,710 which barely matches the AMD Radeon RX 550 graphics card.

So, for now, intel has a lot of tuning to do for its desktop discrete graphics card if it wants to match the likes of AMD and Nvidia. We have heard the rumors of the Xe-HPG lineup is to be scheduled for launch at CES 2022, so the team still has lots of time on their hands to fix things.
