Tottenham Hotspur are currently focused on completing the signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta. There were rumours that Barcelona are interested in him as well, but those have been discarded by renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to recruit his third signing of the summer with Romero, who is pushing to leave Atalanta for a move to Spurs. The fee being quoted for the centre-back is around £42.6 million, and the Argentinian will be the replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian has been moved on from London, joining Qatari club Al Duhail. He was one of the first names on the team sheet during his time at the club, but has now departed after a significant spell. Atalanta want to complete the signing of Merih Demiral from Juventus before selling Romero.

They are yet to reach an agreement with the Bianconeri for their player, and also have to tend to the tense negotiations with Tottenham who are prioritising the transfer of the 2021 Serie A defender of the season.

With Alderweireld out of the club, Spurs only have three first-team centre-backs, with Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Joe Rodon the possible options. Nuno will have to sign someone else if the two clubs cannot agree on a fee, but the discussions are still going on.

The Portuguese manager will have a lot of expectations from fans in his first season in charge of the London whites. They are one of the biggest teams to be competing in the Europa Conference League, and will be expected to win their first trophy in ages.
