Miralem Pjanic has been told by Barcelona that he can leave the club this summer since he is not a part of the club’s plans going forward.

The Bosnian has struggled to break into the team, and managed only six starts for Barcelona this past season. His signing was not a part of the plans of Ronald Koeman, and it was made to balance the books, which still remain in dire circumstances. He was swapped with Arthur Melo in a player plus cash deal that saw the 31-year-old being scapegoated in the process.

The rise of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri as indispensable parts of Barcelona’s midfield have made it even more difficult for Pjanic to be chosen ahead of the talented youngsters.

As per the latest reports coming out of Spain, the midfielder is willing to take a pay cut to move away from Barcelona after rumours stating otherwise earlier. His agents are rumoured to be talking to suitors in Italy, with Inter Milan and Juventus leading the list of clubs that could bring him back to the country.

Even if Barcelona let the player go for free, they will have to deal with the €64 million amortization costs that lie in his contract. Hence, it makes sense for the club to find a suitor willing to pay a transfer fee to not only get his wages off the books, but bring in some money in the process.
