As Madrid teams drop points, is this the Golden chance for Barcelona to win LaLiga?

Barcelona’s financial problems are something that most people are aware of. But, the Swiss Ramble has gone the extra mile to elaborate on the details of the crisis that Barcelona are facing right now.

Their wage budget was the highest in Europe for the 20/21 season, which exceeded that of Manchester City by €42 million. Due to the absence of matchday revenue and various other factors, the club registered losses worth €173 million in operations alone, the fourth highest in Europe.

A similar figure is quoted for the amortization costs that Barcelona have on their books. This is the total amount that a player’s contract is worth in total. The €174 million quoted by the Ramble is the highest of its kind in Europe, once again. Barcelona also have the same situation pertaining to their net transfer debt of €323 million.

La Liga will not allow #FCBarcelona to register its new signings unless the club makes savings of over €200m. These signings include Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay and Emerson Royal. These are mainly free transfers, but Barca still cannot complete the transactions.

Barcelona could let fringe players like Miralem Pjanic leave the club for free, but it would still leave them with €64 million in amortization. Hence, getting a transfer fee for the midfielder could be necessary. Other players such as Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho have also been placed on the transfer list to help gather the necessary funds.

The Spanish giants have €1.2 billion as debt, and €712 million is due in the upcoming season alone. The crisis needs to be navigated very carefully by president Joan Laporta and his board, since the functioning of the club could be at stake due to the financial situation.
