Kieran Trippier is reportedly focused on securing a return to the Premier League this summer, according to Sportsmail.
The Atletico Madrid man only has a year left on his current deal with the club, and not two as was previously indicated. The player is being pursued by Manchester United, who are also targeting Raphael Varane from Atleti’s neighbours, Real Madrid.
They have already had a bid rejected for the Englishman since Atletico Madrid are firm about their demands for €40 million for Trippier. They don’t need to sell him, and would ideally be happy to keep him at the club given how influential he was for their title winning campaign.
However, if the player pushes to leave, they will accept the right bid, which is around the €40 million mark. As of yet, only United are interested in bringing the former Tottenham man back to England. Trippier was key for England in their Euro 2020 campaign, and also started for the Three Lions in the final against Italy, but ultimately came up short.
The England international is valued at €20 million by Transfermarkt. He has earned 33 caps for the national team in total, and would bring a huge attacking dimension to United’s backline in the new season. It is also worth considering that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the right-back position, and could crowd up the squad.
United are yet to launch another official bid for the player, after their first rejected attempt.
