Sergio Ramos was recently announced as a new PSG player, joining the French club until 2023. According to Goal, he was sent an offer by Arsenal as well, but the player turned their offer down before joining PSG.

Arsenal offered Ramos a two-year contract worth £15 million every season, but the lack of Champions League football was a deal-breaker for Ramos. Despite his entourage being interested in the offer, the player himself looked past it due to the inability to compete at the highest level in Europe.

PSG were the only club who have been in contact with him since February. They offered him a deal he could not turn down, and he is now the second confirmed free agent to join the capital club after Gini Wijnaldum.

Numerous other clubs from Europe were interested in Ramos considering he was available for free. Manchester City appreciated the player, but never made any contact to bring him over. Their city rivals, United, have eyes on Raphael Varane for their centre-back target.

Ramos wanted a two-year extension from Real Madrid, but they could only offer him one as per club policy. Unable to find an agreement with the club, Ramos had to leave the club ultimately since the one-year offer came with a deadline as well. He is viewed as the replacement for Thiago Silva at the back, since PSG have been lacking a leader at the back following the Brazilian’s move to Chelsea in 2020.
