Daredevil: Born Again Season 3: Matt Murdock’s New Orange Costume Explained

Matt Murdock and red go together like a natural pair, but that’s about to change. Early footage from Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 reveals a very different Daredevil look, and a clue that the Defenders are about to team up again. Here’s what we know so far.

What We Know About Daredevil: Born Again Season 3?

A Prison-Made Costume

At New York Comic-Con 2026, the cast showed exclusive footage to attendees. The Direct caught a glimpse of a new costume that Matt makes from his prison jumpsuit. He turns his shirt into a head wrap and adds hand wraps, creating a rough orange outfit. The look matches a version that leaked online earlier this year.

It’s a big shift for Charlie Cox’s hero, who has worked red into his wardrobe since his Netflix days. Even the black costume from Season 2 picked up red touches over time.

How Did Matt End Up in Prison?

In the Season 2 finale, Matt told the world he was the vigilante Daredevil. It was the only way to finally bring down Mayor Wilson Fisk, and he knew he’d pay for it. He was sent to the same prison that now holds members of Kingpin’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Matt ended the season smiling, but the new footage suggests he still has plenty to answer for. The criminals he put away may be coming for him, which would explain why he needs a costume inside.

The Defenders Are Back

Season 2 saw Jessica Jones help Matt investigate Kingpin, but Luke Cage and Iron Fist sat it out. Not anymore. The NYCC footage shows Jessica, Luke and Danny Rand sitting at a table together, happy to reunite. Still, Jessica notes the group is one person short because Matt isn’t there.

Many fans assumed the Defenders would simply cover for Daredevil while he’s locked up. Jessica’s comment hints at something different: the team may be planning to break him out. This is only an interpretation of the footage, so treat it as a theory for now.

Why Matt Might Resist?

Matt wants to believe in the justice system, even though it didn’t do him any favours. A few run-ins with other inmates, serious enough to make him build a costume, might change his mind. He may come to realise he can do more good outside, and that Daredevil represents his best impulses as well as his worst. As the series wraps up, a final team-up action scene with the Defenders seems very likely.

What to Expect Next?

If the orange suit stays behind bars, as The Direct suggests, fans may get one more costume change before the finale. Either way, the mix of prison drama, a heroic reunion and an emotional send-off sounds like a strong final chapter.
