Baba Bageshwar Apologises Over Ram-Krishna Remarks: What Happened and Why It Spread

A single comparison during a religious discourse has become a national row. Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham has now apologised, but the reactions have kept coming. Here is a quick, neutral summary.

What Baba Bageshwar Said?

The remarks came during a Ram Katha in Karera, in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, where Shastri compared the forms of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, saying Ram stands straight while Krishna stands bent in three places. The event took place on October 29. Reports say he also described Krishna as clever in comparison with Ram, which drew backlash from saints in Mathura.

The Apology

Shastri said he did not intend to insult any deity and that he humbly apologises if anyone was offended by his emotional remarks. Another report says he claimed his words were misunderstood.

Reactions So Far

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav criticised Shastri and called for restrictions on his entry into Uttar Pradesh. Tejashwi Yadav, without naming him, called the comments indecent. Pappu Yadav also reportedly went to a police station seeking an FIR. In Agra, a defamation case was filed in district court by advocate Ajay Pratap Singh, who claims to be a descendant of Lord Krishna. Read our latest India news coverage for updates.

Why It Matters?

Shastri is a prominent and often debated figure, and a public apology has not ended the controversy. Supporters may see it as a closed matter, while critics say legal and political accountability should follow. How the courts and police respond will decide how long this stays in the headlines.
