Meet the Players
Li Shimin (Yang Hyun Min) is a ruthless ruler who seized power after eliminating his brothers. Yet he’s willing to recruit even his enemies’ subordinates if they show exceptional talent. Determined to conquer Goguryeo, he launches a massive military campaign, only to face a crisis against fierce resistance.
Xu Jingzong (Park Myung Hoon) is a politically shrewd aide who adapts to every shift in power. He helps the emperor’s campaign against Goguryeo and becomes involved in Crown Prince Li Zhi’s regency. After Li Shimin’s death, he reveals long-hidden ambitions and joins the court power struggle.
Wu Zetian (Choi Ye Bin) was once Li Shimin’s concubine, but she’s a woman of exceptional political insight. After his death, she wins Li Zhi’s favor, becomes empress, and expands her influence by eliminating senior officials who oppose her. She would eventually seize control of the dynasty.
