The Timeline That Changed

The sequel was planned right after the original’s massive success. If things had gone to plan, it would have reached theatres around Vishu last year. Instead, Girish pivoted and made BKU, which was completed quickly and released a few months later.

Why Fans Feel the Loss?

The original Premalu followed Sachin, a young man whose UK plans collapse and who lands in Hyderabad. There he falls for Reenu, an IT professional, and bumbles through love with plenty of laughs. It became a major hit, and the Naslen–Mamitha chemistry was a big reason why.

The Silver Lining

Mamitha Baiju did not leave the director’s orbit. She leads BKU alongside Nivin Pauly, playing Ashley, who falls for her older neighbour Justin, a kind-hearted caterer who loves music. Family opposition and an age gap test them before they reunite at his brother’s wedding. The film also features Sangeeth Prathap, Vinay Forrt and Roshan Shanavas.
