The Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona is indeed a very prestigious event for both mobile operators and manufacturers. South Korea is know for its technical prowess and its wide range of tech companies who always show their innovation at the MWC.
This year, South Korea’s three major mobile operators and its biggest tech company, Samsung Electronics won the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO Awards) at the 2021 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
As per the list of winners released by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), Samsung’s flagship smartphone, “Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G”, won the Best Smartphone Award. ITHome reports that the judges commented that the display and camera performance of the smartphone overwhelmed models of the same grade.
Whereas, SK Telecom was awarded the “Best Accessibility and Integrated Mobile Use Award” for its augmented reality tour app “Changde Arirang” created by the Cultural Heritage Administration and Google. This app uses AR technology to allow users to experience ancient Korea The palace, Changdeokgung, winning a lot of awards in the UK and the United States.
On the other hand, the “Air Map Korea”, which is a real-time air monitoring and analysis service launched by Korea Telecom (KT), won the “Best Mobile Innovation Award for Promoting Climate Action”.
This is not all, South Korea’s three major mobile operators (SKT, KT, LG U+) have won the “5G Industry Cooperation Award” for their cooperation projects to jointly build 5G infrastructure in agricultural and fishing villages.
South Korea are among the few countries that have implemented 5G so well throughout the country and are ranked the best implementor of 5G across the globe.
