Chiranjeevi Meets Karthik Subbaraj: One Script Narrated, Nothing Signed Yet

Some pairings feel inevitable. A Telugu Megastar and a Tamil director known for stylish, offbeat storytelling? Fans have been imagining this one for years, and now there’s a real hint that it might happen.

Here’s what’s actually been said, and what’s still wishful thinking. For more South cinema news, see our Telugu and Tamil film updates.

What We Know?

Speaking on the podcast Permit Room, Karthik Subbaraj said he has narrated a script to Chiranjeevi, but nothing has been finalized. He added that he’s hopeful they’ll work together.

There’s no official announcement. If it does happen, it would be the first collaboration between the actor and the director.

Chiranjeevi Overview

The Films Behind the Story

1. Kaaka (January 13, 2027)
Chiranjeevi’s next release, directed by Bobby Kolli and produced by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions. The action thriller reportedly follows a family man who lives an ordinary life with his daughter while hiding a mysterious side. His peaceful existence is disrupted when a younger, more stylish, action-driven alter ego pulls him back into gunfire and high-stakes confrontations. Anaswara Rajan plays a pivotal role, and the Sankranti release gives it a festive slot.

2. Dorothy (Karthik Subbaraj’s latest)
Set in the 1980s, the film follows childhood friends Karthi and Subbu, who grow up as henchmen under Subbu’s father, Whistle Veeraiah. Their lives change when Dorothy, Subbu’s sister-in-law, dies under mysterious circumstances. After her death, Subbu reveals her true gender identity but is rejected by her family and forced to leave home. Flashbacks show how Dorothy supported Subbu in embracing herself.

Determined to protect the family’s honour, Veeraiah hires Karthi to kill Subbu. But as the two travel together, Karthi struggles to follow through and confronts his own feelings. The rest of the story explores their emotional journey and hard choices.

Keerthy Suresh plays a co-lead alongside Sananth and Rishikanth, with Ramachandran Durairaj, Muthazhagi, Jeeva Subramanian and Muthukumar in key roles. Karthik Subbaraj wrote and directed it, and Ilaiyaraaja composed the music. Pinkvilla’s article says Karthik was “last seen in a lead role” in the film, which is an odd description of a director, so check that detail before publishing.

3. The Chiranjeevi x Karthik Subbaraj film (unconfirmed)
No title, cast, genre or timeline exists yet. It’s a conversation, not a project. Chiranjeevi’s profile on Wikipedia is a good starting point for the actor’s long career.

Why This Pairing Excites Fans?

• Two different worlds: Chiranjeevi’s mass appeal meets Karthik Subbaraj’s stylish, genre-bending approach.
• A fresh combination: they’ve never worked together, so there’s no template to compare it to.
• A busy director: Karthik’s recent work shows he’s willing to experiment, which could suit a veteran star looking for something new.

Conclusion

It’s too early to get carried away. A narrated script is the first step, not a green light, and Chiranjeevi has Kaaka to complete first. Still, the fact that the director publicly said he hopes to work with the Megastar suggests real interest. For now, treat this as a possibility worth watching, not a done deal.
