Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan voted ‘Greatest Men’s Test bowler’ of 21st century

Muttiah Muralitharan has been voted as the ‘Greatest Men’s test bowler’ of the 21st century.

Following which Star Sports released a video on Twitter featuring their commentary panel where veteran cricketers such as VVS Laxman, Irfan Pathan and Akash Chopra among others as well. In the video former Indian Cricketer, VVS Laxman stated “My vote would be for Muralitharan. I was privileged to face all these bowlers but no one was like Murali. His sheer presence invoked fear amongst batsmen whether in sub-continent or other countries.”

Muttiah Muralitharan is considered one of the best bowlers ever to play the game of cricket, he is also the highest wicket-taker in test cricket and One day international and the only cricketer ever to have taken 800 wickets in test format. Also having 534 wickets in his remarkable career. Muralitharan has also held 1st place in ICC Test bowler ranking for nearly 5 years or 1711 days to be more specific across 214 test matches.

He also is the only player to take 50 or more wickets against every Test playing nation during his playing days.

Despite retiring from cricket back in 2010 there is currently no cricketer even close to matching his numbers and stats in test cricket. He was also the first-ever Sri Lankan cricketer who inducted into the ICC Hall of fame back in 2017. He was also inducted as Wisden’s Cricketers’ Almanack back in 2002.

Muralitharan has been remarkable throughout his career and also labelled unplayable by some of the best batsmen of his generation. Although despite being called out for his unorthodox bowling action, Muttiah has always cleared the allegations regarding his bowling action.
