Sadio Mane donates £450,000 to help open a hospital in Senegal

Sadio Mane has emerged as a hero for the people of Senegal once again. The Liverpool forward has donated £450,000 for the construction of a hospital in his home village of Bambaii.

Mane returned to his home country for national matches against Zambia and Cape Verde in early June. He recently met Senegal president Macky Sall to discuss the project, and the hospital has now been constructed and inaugurated.

Senegalese international Sadio Mane was received this Thursday by President Macky Sall,’ a statement from the presidency of the country read.

‘The Liverpool social worker came to exchange with the Head of State on his social actions including the construction of a hospital in Bambali.

‘He has requested assistance from the State for medical staff.

‘Senegal’s new stadium and the preparation of the national team with the last two friendly matches were also on the exchange menu.’

The player has been very generous in giving back to his home country, and regularly travels back when he is not playing. He is also  responsible for constructing a secondary school in the area, along with a supermarket that is named after him.

The new hospital will consist of an A&E department, maternity care, dental facilities and consulting rooms. It is the first of its kind in the area, and will serve 34 villages around Bambaii. Mane also has plans to construct a petrol pump and a post office to further develop his home.
