TSMC and Foxconn to negotiate on behalf of Taiwan to procure vaccine for the country amidst increasing cases

The entire world is currently suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic which is still lingering amongst us and it has successfully destroyed the lifestyle which we had built up over the years. However, some countries have sent an unprecedented example in handling the COVID situation in their country.

One such country was Taiwan, which managed to control the pandemic outbreak last year and kept its losses to a bare minimum. The country has huge technical importance in the world especially now since the world is facing a shortage of semiconductors.

However, the rising case count of COVID-19 cases is threatening the country’s vital tech industry in the middle of a global semiconductor shortage. But the government has fully acknowledged the situation and has allowed its powerful corporations to buy COVID-19 vaccines on its behalf.

According to sources, the Taiwanese government issued on Friday that it would allow chipmaker TSMC and Terry Gou, the billionaire founder of tech assembly giant Foxconn, to negotiate on its behalf with vaccine makers. And both the financial leaders are more than happy to aid the country during this peril and they hope to buy around 5 million vaccines each from Germany’s BioNTech and donate them to the government.

“The government thinks that it may be easier for companies to reach out to vaccine makers or distributors to lower the geopolitical interference. Even if Mr. Gou can discuss this with the original manufacturer or an agent, can he get them to sell sufficient vaccines? Honestly, nobody knows.”

It’s worth noting that Taiwan holds a significant important place in the tech market and TSMC and Foxconn are both lynchpins of global tech supply chains and Taiwan’s economy. The global pandemic has created a worldwide shortage in chip supplies, which has lead to rising prices and missing stock PS5s to even Tesla’s. and if due to pandemic Taiwan’s factories are forced to shut down, then the global chip shortage will only get worse resulting in severe losses across the tech world.
