Nintendo Direct Live Report: Switch 2 Winter Line-Up Takes Centre Stage In September Showcase

Here’s what you need to know: the September 2026 Nintendo Direct went live on Wednesday, September 9, with the entire broadcast built around the Switch 2’s winter release slate.

It is day two of Nintendo’s September showcases, following Tuesday’s deep dive into The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake footage, and the show began at 3pm UK time — a convenient 7:30pm start for viewers in India.

The outlet ran a live report tracking every announcement as it landed, and the coverage makes one thing clear: Nintendo is stacking the months between now and March with first-party weight.

What The Live Report Tracked Before The Broadcast

The counterintuitive headline ahead of the show? Nintendo’s biggest franchise was arguably the least likely to appear. The Ocarina of Time reveal on day one, covered in detail alongside Digital Foundry Delivers Its technical breakdowns of other big remasters, effectively cleared Zelda from the board.

That left room for Mario — but with no mainline 3D entry since Odyssey in 2017, and the Odyssey team busy building Donkey Kong Bananza in the years since, a far-off Mario glimpse remained wishful thinking rather than an expectation. What the live report all but guaranteed was a release date for FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods, confirmed for 2026 but still undated. The scheduling puzzle is genuine: an October slot works, but anything near mid-November collides head-on with GTA 6, the biggest entertainment launch of the year. Several other items rounded out the watchlist:

Why The Winter Line-Up Timing Matters

Worth noting: this showcase is not just a list of trailers — it is Nintendo drawing battle lines for the crowded final quarter. A Diablo 4 port would land ahead of BlizzCon this weekend, giving Blizzard’s loot grinder a fresh console audience, while Witcher 3 Remastered footage builds on last week’s Gamescom reveal. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, meanwhile, needs no build-up; Nintendo has already shown extensive footage ahead of its release next week, so any additional segment is a bonus rather than a make-or-break moment.

For Switch 2 owners, the practical takeaway is calendar planning. The Wingardium Leviosa Meets Switch coverage showed how third-party publishers are treating the new console as a genuine multiplatform home, and Metal Gear Solid 4 arriving on the hardware reinforced that pattern. Even beyond gaming, screens are reshaping everything — Mini’s Next Cooper Might switch its rear layout, a small reminder that interactive displays are now everywhere. The Switch 2’s job this winter is to hold your attention against all of it.

The Verdict For Fans

If you own a Switch 2, watch the Duskbloods date above everything else — it tells you whether FromSoftware’s multiplayer bloodhunt lands before or after the GTA 6 wave. If it is third-party value you want, the Diablo 4 and Witcher 3 segments matter more.

The Nintendo Direct has set the winter table; now the release dates have to fill it.
