Lego Just Created Its First-Ever ‘Batman Returns’ Batmobile Set

Lego Just Created Its First-Ever ‘Batman Returns’ Batmobile Set. Lego’s newest collector drop puts the 1992 Tim Burton Batmobile on the plastic pedestal it has deserved for over three decades, and fans are already scrambling to figure out what makes it different from every Gotham ride that came before it.

Here’s what you need to know about the set, the film that inspired it, and where it fits in Lego Batman history.

What Is Inside the New Lego Batman Returns Batmobile Set?

The set recreates the elongated, cockpit-style Batmobile driven by Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne in the 1992 film Batman Returns, complete with the turbine-shaped rear exhaust, grappling-hook launcher, and angular fins that defined Burton’s gothic Gotham aesthetic.

Lego has positioned the build as a display piece for adult collectors rather than a play set, mirroring its approach with other premium-tier releases like the 2022 Batmobile from Batman (1989). The brick-built version captures the film’s noir-industrial design language that earned the movie two Academy Award nominations at the 65th Academy Awards ceremony.

Why Did Lego Wait Until Now to Release a Batman Returns Batmobile?

Lego’s Batman theme has cycled through Burton’s 1989 Batmobile, the Schumacher-era vehicles, and the Nolan Tumbler, but the 1992 redesign kept getting passed over. Demand from adult collectors — the same demographic driving record sales of Lego Icons and Lego Botanicals lines — finally tipped the scales.

The film grossed approximately $266.8 million worldwide during its theatrical run, cementing the second Burton Batmobile as a pop-culture artifact worth immortalising in bricks.

How Does the Set Connect to the Original 1992 Film?

The build pulls directly from the Warner Bros. Pictures production that paired Michael Keaton with Danny DeVito as the Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. The cockpit canopy, jet-black chassis, and exposed turbine engine all mirror the screen-used prop designed by Anton Furst’s successor, Bo Welch.

Subscribers can stream the original Batman Returns on Max, which gives buyers a built-in rewatch companion the moment the box opens.

When Can Collectors Buy the Lego Batman Returns Batmobile?

Lego has confirmed availability through Lego.com and Lego Brand Stores, with general retail rollout following the typical collector window. Pricing falls in line with other 18+ display builds in the Lego Batman lineup.

Demand is expected to spike quickly — the 1989 Batmobile set routinely sells out within hours of restocks, and the 1992 version carries equal nostalgia weight.

What Does This Release Mean for Lego Batman’s Future?

The drop signals Lego is finally treating Burton’s sequel as a separate visual universe from the 1989 original rather than a duplicate. Expect more 1992-specific builds — Penguin’s lair, Catwoman’s whip, the Gotham Cathedral finale — if this set performs the way industry watchers anticipate.
