Peach Momoko’s Momo-Tone Covers Bring Manga Magic to Marvel

Marvel just dropped a first look at something genuinely different. Starting November 2026, acclaimed artist Peach Momoko debuts Momo-Tone Variant Covers — a fresh collection that swaps her usual watercolor-only style for a technique straight out of her school-day dreams: screentones.

If you’ve ever flipped through a manga and noticed those dotted gray shading patterns, that’s screentones — adhesive sheets traditionally used in manga to create dynamic shades of gray and dramatic shadows. You can read more about the craft on Wikipedia’s screentone page. marvel

Momoko couldn’t afford screentones back in art school. Now, with Marvel’s biggest characters as her canvas, she’s finally using them — but with a twist. Rather than painting directly on top (risking warped art), she found that painting on the back of the canvas was very effective, creating a clean, soft tone palette that shows through when light passes from behind. marvel

What’s Peach Momoko Coming in the Collection

The very first reveal — a Miles Morales: Spider-Man #4 cover — sets the tone (pun intended) for the whole series: moody, painterly, and unmistakably Momoko.

Why This Matters

Momoko has built her reputation on reimagining Marvel icons through a distinctly Japanese art lens. This new technique isn’t just a stylistic experiment — it’s a full-circle moment for an artist finally executing an idea she couldn’t afford years ago. That kind of story resonates with fans and collectors alike, and it’s likely to make these covers highly sought after.
