VfL Osnabrück vs Bayern München Match Preview, Prediction, Timings, Lineups, Teams, and How to Watch

The Bremer Brücke sets the stage for a classic cup underdog story as VfL Osnabrück vs Bayern München opens the DFB-Pokal campaign for the reigning champions. Fresh off a domestic double last season, Bayern head into Lower Saxony as overwhelming favourites — but Osnabrück, riding the momentum of their promotion, will smell a famous upset under the floodlights.

VfL Osnabrück vs Bayern München Match Snapshot

Preview & Prediction

Bayern arrive as defending DFB-Pokal champions after a dominant 3-0 win over Stuttgart in last season’s final, and their squad depth makes them huge favourites here. However, cup football has a habit of throwing up shocks, and Osnabrück’s newly-promoted energy plus home advantage under the lights could make this trickier than the form book suggests. Expect Vincent Kompany to rotate his squad, giving fringe players a chance, but Bayern’s quality should still see them through — a 3-0 or 4-1 scoreline in the Bavarians’ favour looks most likely.

Likely Lineups

VfL Osnabrück: With no reported injury concerns, expect a full-strength XI set up defensively to frustrate Bayern and look for chances on the break.

Bayern München: Kompany is likely to rotate heavily, resting key starters from the title-winning core while giving fringe attackers and academy talents a rare chance to impress in a competitive fixture.
