Akshay Kumar Goes Where Bollywood Has Never Gone Before: First Look Into “Samuk,” India’s Man-vs-Alien Epic

Forget cops and villains — this time, Akshay Kumar is fighting something not of this world. Bollywood’s most prolific action star is stepping into completely uncharted territory. Akshay Kumar has officially begun shooting for “Samuk,” an ambitious survival-action thriller that blends alien mythology with grounded, high-stakes horror — and the film’s global-caliber talent lineup suggests this isn’t just another genre experiment.

A New Genre for Akshay Kumar?

Backed by producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Kanishk Varma, “Samuk” has reportedly been in development for over two years. The film aims to merge realism, survival horror, and extraterrestrial mythology into a large-scale theatrical spectacle — positioning it as a pan-Indian production with genuinely global ambitions.

For Akshay Kumar, known for grounded action and patriotic dramas, this marks a dramatic tonal shift into man-versus-creature survival territory, a genre Indian cinema has rarely attempted at this scale.

Hollywood Talent Joins the Project

What sets “Samuk” apart is its technical crew. Creature effects designer Alec Gillis — known for his legendary work on the Alien and Predator franchises, as well as Alien: Romulus — has designed the film’s central creature. Meanwhile, British action director Luke Tumber has come aboard to choreograph the action sequences, bringing a physically intense, grounded edge to complement the survival storyline.

This level of international craftsmanship signals just how seriously the makers are approaching the project’s execution.

A 13-Year Reunion

Beyond the ambitious premise, “Samuk” also marks something personal: producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s reunion with Akshay Kumar after 13 years. The duo previously delivered several hits together, and this reunion adds an extra layer of anticipation among longtime fans of their collaborations.

Why This Project Matters

“Samuk” arrives at a moment when Indian cinema is increasingly experimenting with genres historically dominated by Hollywood, much like the broader evolution seen in science fiction film as a global genre. With top-tier creature and action talent involved, the film could set a new benchmark for Indian sci-fi survival thrillers.
