A guy who can see relationship threads between people has never once had a thread of his own — until he meets a skeptical cop who doesn’t believe in any of it. That’s the hook behind Taiwan’s newest BL, “Connecting to You,” and it earns its spot on your watchlist fast.
What The Show Is About
The series follows Lin Chia Kai, an average university student except for his supernatural ability to see color-coded relationship threads between people. While working as a psychic police consultant for skeptical cop Wu Da Wei, Chia Kai discovers his very first thread appears — with Da Wei himself, in a silvery grey color he’s never seen before.
Connecting To You: 5 Reasons To Watch
| Reason | Why It Works |
|---|---|
| The thread lore | Red = love, green = family, yellow = friendship, blue = hostility — every color and thickness is a clue |
| The “what are we?” mystery | Chia Kai’s first-ever thread appears with the one person who doesn’t believe in his powers |
| Best-friend energy | Sidekick Nan brings about 75% of the show’s comedy while “monetizing” Chia Kai’s psychic gifts |
| Scooby-Doo crime-fighting | Street chases, bad disguises, and comedic near-brawls define the investigation scenes |
| Unseriousness done right | Chaotic, heartfelt humor in the same lane as “Cherry Magic!” and “Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars” |
The Cast Worth Knowing
Chiu Yi Tai plays Chia Kai, with Liu Yu Ren as Da Wei, and Lin Da Her — known for his slapstick timing in “Secrets in the Hot Spring” — playing best friend Nan. Together with police officer suspect-turned-ally Xiao Yu, the found-family ensemble is deliberately imperfect and all the more likeable for it.
Why It Fits The Genre Moment
Taiwanese BL has been on a hot streak, and “Connecting to You” taps into a premise familiar from shows like The Girl Who Sees Smells and Japan’s “Cherry Magic!” — supernatural perception used to untangle both crime and romance. What sets it apart is the balance: genuinely funny, low-stakes chaos paired with a slow-burn “what does this thread mean” mystery that gives the central relationship real emotional stakes without losing its comedic core.
