Flipkart Group, in partnership with PayU Finance, today announced the launch of Flipkart Pay Later, a new credit offering designed to provide customers with flexible repayment options integrated directly at checkout. The service is available across Flipkart, Myntra, and Flipkart Minutes platforms, marking a strategic advancement in building a digital credit infrastructure tailored to India’s burgeoning e-commerce sector.

The Flipkart Pay Later offering introduces three distinct repayment options. These include a ‘Pay Later’ option allowing up to 30 days for everyday purchases, a ‘Pay in 3’ scheme that splits the cost across three payments, and EMI plans ranging from 3 to 12 months for higher-value categories such as mobiles, electronics, appliances, and furniture. This tiered approach aims to cater to both high-frequency, lower-value transactions in segments like fashion and home goods, as well as larger purchases where structured repayment can enhance accessibility.

Flipkart: Overview

PayU Finance, the NBFC arm of PayU, serves as the initial lending partner for the Flipkart Pay Later program, with plans to onboard additional financial institutions as the initiative scales. Under the partnership, PayU Finance operates as the licensed lender, while Flipkart Finance manages customer relationships and leverages its credit intelligence, combining extensive commerce data with lending expertise to facilitate faster and more precise credit decisions.

Vishal Ahuja, Executive Director, Flipkart Finance, emphasized the strategic importance of affordability in India’s digital commerce landscape. “Affordability is a primary driver for digital commerce engagement in India, with access to credit often being a key barrier for many consumers,” Ahuja stated. He added that Flipkart is leveraging a decade of commerce signals to develop an underwriting model aimed at expanding credit access to a broader customer base, positioning the offering as a significant step in developing a financial services capability designed to enhance participation in India’s digital economy.

Deepak Mendiratta, CEO of PayU Finance, highlighted the role of the partnership in meeting the growing demand for responsible credit. “As digital commerce continues to evolve, the need for responsible and accessible credit has never been greater,” Mendiratta commented. He noted that the collaboration with Flipkart Finance combines technology, data-driven underwriting, and robust risk management to deliver scalable credit experiences, thereby supporting both financial inclusion and the growth of India’s digital commerce sector.

The credit decisions underpinning Flipkart Pay Later are based on a sophisticated assessment combining Flipkart Finance’s commerce intelligence—including transaction history, purchase patterns, and platform behavior—with PayU Finance’s lending and risk management capabilities. This multi-source data approach ensures customer exposure is evaluated comprehensively, promoting responsible credit extension and preventing over-leveraging.
