Chennai’s Biggest Pop Culture Party Is Back: Gaming Thiruvizha Returns This September

Gamers, cosplayers, and anime fans, mark your calendars. Skyesports is bringing Gaming Thiruvizha back to Chennai on September 26–27, 2026, at the Chennai Trade Centre — and after last year’s massive turnout, this edition is shaping up even bigger.

What Made the 2025 Debut So Big

The inaugural 2025 edition pulled in a footfall of more than 17,000 attendees, who spent an average of 4.5 hours at the festival. The crowd spanned school and college students, working professionals, anime fans, cosplay communities, comic readers, and creators — with families notably showing up together, underlining just how wide the event’s cultural pull has become.

For the first time, the festival will also host Tamil Nadu’s first-ever award show for gaming creators, recognizing the region’s most impactful names in the space.

Why This Matters for India’s AVGC Scene

“The future of entertainment is interactive, creator-led and community-driven,” said Gnana Shekar, CMO of Skyesports. “We are building more than a festival, we are building India’s flagship AVGC and pop culture IP that can stand alongside the world’s biggest entertainment conventions.”

The festival taps directly into India’s booming AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) sector, an industry the government has increasingly prioritized as a growth area for the country’s creative economy.
