Huawei’s 3nm Processor Technology is Under Development – Report Says

CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, Yu Chengdong said that the company facing problems to produce new products due to the curbs applied by the U.S. on Huawei. This is affecting directly on the smartphone business of Huawei as it is facing difficulties due to the unavailability of the required components to build new models.

According to a report of Chinese media, recently Huawei has applied for the registration of the “Kirin Processor” trademark. The date of this application is April 22, 2021. It is clear that Huawei is still trying to pull out something new from the Chip division, HiSilicon, and stepping ahead to develop new chip technologies to make a comeback in the future without depending on some other firms.

A report is suggesting that Huawei is working on a next-generation smartphone chipset, named Kirin 9010. Though, it’s not sure that Huawei will give that name to the chip at the release time because the company could skip this one and we might see a Kirin 9020 directly.

As per the information, this new chip is of 3nm processor technology, and the design is supposed to be finished this year. However, there is still no official confirmation regarding this matter. Right now, Huawei is not able to make new chip design through a third-party chip manufacturer, but according to the current scenario, even TSMC’s 3nm process technology has not become mature enough.

Huawei is now using Kirin 9000 processor in its flagship devices, which can be said the most powerful chip that is ever made by the company. It features TSMC’s 5nm process and this one is the last processor that was released in 2020 along with the Huawei Mate 40 series; it was used to power up the Mate X2 foldable phone, and now it might be featured in the upcoming Huawei P50 series.
