Amazon

Jassy highlighted that since its launch in India, Amazon has digitised 12 million small businesses, enabled over $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, and supported 2.8 million jobs. Amazon has also trained over 10 million Indians on cloud skills. Amazon

On the new commitment, he was direct: Amazon has witnessed strong growth across its businesses in India, particularly in e-commerce, AI and cloud services, and is investing over $48 billion in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across its business in India and to help the country achieve its priorities.

What PM Modi Said

PM Modi welcomed the investment, calling it a sign of India’s growing appeal among global investors, writing on social media: “A great meeting with Mr. Andy Jassy. I welcome Amazon’s record $48 billion investment in India. This will create new opportunities for our youth. At the same time, it shows the growing interest across the world to invest in India.”

Why This Investment Is a Big Deal

Amazon had earlier announced a $35 billion investment plan for India for the 2026–2030 period. Jassy increased that to an incremental $48 billion, raising the cumulative commitment from 2010 to 2030 to more than $88 billion.

The funds will be used to expand Amazon Web Services data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, giving startups, enterprises and government organisations access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, secure cloud technologies and developer tools to innovate faster and scale rapidly. DNA India

Amazon is also launching a welfare programme called ‘Sammaan’ for delivery associates, covering scholarships, insurance, financial inclusion, and expansion of rest centres. To understand Amazon’s broader global footprint, visit its Wikipedia page.
