The Delhi Boy Who Bet on Mumbai
Like many aspiring actors, Ujwal packed his bags in Delhi and headed to Mumbai to chase something bigger. He didn’t walk straight onto a TV set — he earned his place first on the runway. Starting at 19, he built a solid foundation as a fashion and commercial model, collaborating with brands and production houses before making the pivot to acting.
This model-to-actor journey is actually more common in Indian television than people realise. According to Wikipedia’s overview of Indian television, the Hindi TV industry is one of the largest in the world, making it both a competitive and rewarding space for newcomers.
Breaking Into Television
His formal debut came through Radhakrishn, one of India’s most-watched mythological dramas. Landing even a supporting role in such a high-profile show is no small feat — it introduced him to millions of viewers and gave him the credibility to push for bigger roles.
That break paid off. He went on to feature in Aadha Ishq and the film Dear Dia, steadily expanding his portfolio before landing the lead role of Kabir in Saajan Ghar.
Saajan Ghar and a Bittersweet Chapter
Saajan Ghar brought Ujwal into the spotlight in a major way, but the show also carries a deeply emotional backstory. His co-star Sanchita Ugale, who played Pooja opposite his Kabir, passed away recently at just 30 — a loss deeply felt by the Indian TV fraternity.
