BCCI postponed IPL 2021 amid increasing COVID-19 cases among the players. Recently, the match between KKR and RCB was postponed as two KKR players were tested positive before the match.

As per the reports, BCCI is set to lose over Rs 2000 crore of the broadcast and sponsorship money earmarked for this year’s Indian Premier League.

A senior BCCI official told PTI yesterday, “We would be losing anything between Rs 2000 to Rs 2500 crore for the midway postponement of this season. I would say something in the range of Rs 2200 crore will be closer to accurate estimation.”

“Slash all the payments by half or a bit less and you will be reaching a loss in the range of 2200 crore. The actual losses could be much more but this is a back of the hand calculation for the season.”- he added.

However, BCCI has instructed all the franchises to pay full salary to every player of the squad. According to the terms of a standard IPL Players contract, the franchises pay salaries in three instalments. The first instalment has already been paid whereas the last two payments held over until the conclusion of the tournament. If BCCI fails to resume the league later, still the players will receive their full salary.

The total salaries of all the IPL players are insured under the franchises insurance policies that cover them in the event of injury or any other mishappening. In IPL 2021, the total player’s salary was INR 483 crore.
