Metasports Interactive, an India-based mobile-first competitive sports gaming company, has secured $20 million in user acquisition (UA) funding from Metica, a London-based growth financing firm. The capital is designated to accelerate the global expansion of its flagship multiplayer cricket game, Hitwicket.

The funding will primarily be deployed towards scaling marketing and user acquisition efforts as Metasports Interactive targets its next phase of international growth. The agreement also includes a technology partnership, with Metica (https://www.metica.com/) deploying its proprietary platform to optimize Hitwicket’s in-game revenue performance, aiming to strengthen the financial efficiency of the studio’s growth model.

Co-founded by Kashyap Reddy and Keerti Singh, Metasports Interactive has built a player base of over 18 million users across 109 countries for Hitwicket since its launch. The company highlighted its monetization metrics, player retention, and consistent user acquisition data as key factors that garnered confidence from Metica. With this investment, Metasports Interactive is targeting an approximate eightfold growth over the next 18 months, driven by intensified marketing in priority international markets, AI-led targeting strategies, and continued product development.

Metasports

Kashyap Reddy, Co-Founder and CEO of Metasports Interactive, stated, “Our vision for Hitwicket is to reach over a billion cricket fans globally and build a world-class gaming business from India. This partnership with Metica provides us with both capital and tools to accelerate our penetration into international markets without diluting ownership. We believe this structured UA funding model can unlock significant scale for studios with strong fundamentals.”

The Rise of UA Funding in Gaming

UA funding, a relatively nascent financing model, has gained traction across the global gaming and consumer app industries. As user acquisition represents a significant cost factor for many digital companies, this model offers a non-dilutive, performance-led growth mechanism. It has become a standard tool for efficiently scaling mobile titles in markets such as the United States, Europe, and South-East Asia.

Phil Mohr, CEO of Metica, commented on the investment, “User acquisition funding is typically reserved for companies demonstrating robust unit economics and repeatable growth. Metasports Interactive stood out due to Hitwicket’s proven ability to scale efficiently across both India and global markets. We see an opportunity not only to provide growth funding but also to support that growth through our technology, by helping optimize in-game revenue to enhance lifetime value. We are keen to partner with Metasports Interactive as they establish a globally competitive gaming business from India.”

The deal underscores a broader trend within the Indian gaming sector. As companies mature, develop internationally competitive products, adopt rigorous data practices, and demonstrate predictable growth curves, they are increasingly attracting global investors and financiers, including those offering alternative financial instruments.
