Fans have been absent from the stands for an entire year now, and efforts to have them back have all gone to no avail due to the rising coronavirus cases all across not only the country or the continent but the entire globe.

Italian prime minister Mario Draghi has announced that the country will try to get back to the way things were, by slowly putting into place the gradual reopening scheme. Fans could be allowed back into stadiums from May 1 where the virus has not been spread a lot.

The severity of the spread of the virus has been measured by a traffic light system where the most heavily infected regions qualify as red zones, and the least as green zones. According to the Prime Minister, the places which qualify as yellow zones will be able to host 1,000 fans in outdoor stadiums.

All regions in Italy currently fall in the red or amber zone, and the prospect of upgradation pertaining to the reduction in the severity of the spread will be open from April 26. This new restriction will not only allow fans to come back in for football in the major leagues in the country, but also for five-a-side football and some contact sports.
