Tammy Abraham frozen out of Chelsea squad: Move in summer beckoning?

Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, things have taken a turn for the better as the Blues went on an unbeaten streak that saw them dispatch the likes of Tottenham and Atletico Madrid. That winning streak came to an end against West Bromwich Albion this past weekend, as the Baggies humiliated Chelsea 2-5 at home.

Now that the honeymoon phase for the German is over, one of the main observations that has come to light is Tuchel’s treatment of Tammy Abraham that has left the Chelsea squad confused. The Chelsea academy graduate is still the highest scorer for the club despite his absence from the starting lineup.

Tuchel has preferred Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the centre-forward position, benching both Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham in the process. While Giroud starred in Chelsea’s first-leg victory against Atletico Madrid with a bicycle kick to seal the win, the Frenchman has been dropped from the first team as well.

Abraham has been a contract rebel, with the player reportedly being unconvinced that he has a future at Chelsea as the undisputed number 9. Moreover, Tuchel is also not fully sure about Abraham as the first choice striker, with him not getting any playtime in recent months.

The youngster is now almost sure to miss out on the Euro 2020 squad, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin being preferred as the backup to Harry Kane. Additionally, he could be on the move this summer if things reach a boiling point. Aston Villa, Leicester and West Ham United are reportedly monitoring his situation with Chelsea and could swoop in if he becomes available.
