Reports emerged in the last few days that stated that Manchester United were willing to terminate David De Gea’s contract at the end of the season to replace him with Dean Henderson between the sticks. The Spaniard is currently on a £350,000 per week contract at Old Trafford and is being challenged for game time by the young Englishman.Â
Speaking on the issue on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano mentioned that no decision will be taken right now regarding De Gea’s future at the club, and only at the end of the season will they take a final decision after consultation with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the board.Â
It won’t be possible for the club to have both De Gea and Dean Henderson. The latter was recently offered a new contract worth £100,000 a week after an impressive loan spell with Sheffield United. The competition between the two talents is on right now and will resolve at the end of the campaign. United will have to play one and sell one.
The goalkeeper market is quite complicated right now, with major clubs having their settled goalies between the sticks. Real Madrid and Barcelona have Thibaut Courtois and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, PSG have Keylor Navas and the same can be said for most big clubs in the continent. Hence, should De Gea be relieved of his duties at Manchester United, it will be interesting to see which club decides to go for him.
