Ferrari just made history in India. The brand chose Mumbai — not Maranello, not Monaco — for the global premiere of the Ferrari 849 Testarossa, its most powerful flagship production car ever. The reveal took place at the Jio World Convention Centre in BKC on March 15, 2026, with Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna and Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera both present — a statement of intent about how seriously Ferrari now treats the Indian market.

What Makes the 849 Testarossa Special

The name is back — and this time it means something entirely new. The original Ferrari Testarossa of the 1980s was a cultural icon. The 849 revives the nameplate with a thoroughly modern brief: a plug-in hybrid flagship that pairs Ferrari’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (producing 830 PS on its own) with two front-axle electric motors and one rear motor between the engine and gearbox, for a combined 1,050 CV.

The 0–100 km/h sprint of under 2.3 seconds puts it within striking distance of hypercars costing several times more. Yet the 849 is still a usable road car — the 7.45 kWh battery gives about 25 km of silent EV running, and the cabin, while deeply driver-focused, gets a 16-inch digital driver’s display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built in. There’s no central touchscreen — Ferrari deliberately kept the dashboard clean and driver-facing, which feels right.

Design-wise, it’s a blend of retro and aggressive. L-shaped LED headlamps connected by a gloss-black strip across the bonnet nod to classic Ferrari design language. The twin-tail rear — complete with an active rear spoiler generating 100 kg of downforce — is the 849’s signature visual statement. It rivals the Lamborghini Revuelto in both price and provocation.

Why Ferrari Chose India for a Global Premiere

This wasn’t a regional launch. Ferrari chose India for the global debut — a decision Vigna made deliberately. Addressing the 500+ guests at the evening gala, he drew a direct line between India’s entrepreneurial energy and Ferrari’s own ethos. “I see a lot of promise, I see an India that has been changing a lot. So, we believe India is the right place for Ferrari to continue to grow,” he said.

The India-EU trade agreement also reduces import barriers, which Enrico Galliera noted should make doing business here significantly easier going forward. Ferrari has also reportedly opened a new service point in Bengaluru — a deliberate move to serve the city’s growing tech-entrepreneur clientele. Another major Ferrari event is planned in Delhi later this year.
