Accused: Konkona Sen Sharma’s New Netflix Film Will Make You Question Everything

There’s something deeply unsettling about watching a respected doctor — a gynaecologist who has dedicated her life to caring for others — suddenly become the one everyone is pointing fingers at. That’s exactly the raw nerve that the trailer of Accused hits, and it hits hard.

Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and backed by Karan Johar‘s Dharma Productions, this Netflix psychological drama pairs two of Indian cinema’s most nuanced actresses together for the first time — and the results look nothing short of gripping.

Accused — Overview

What the Accused Trailer Reveals

The trailer opens on a picture-perfect life — two women in love, dancing, planning to adopt a child together. Then, in a single anonymous HR complaint, everything unravels. Dr. Geetika Sen (Konkona Sen Sharma) is labelled a sexual predator by an unknown colleague, and just like that, her career, reputation, and marriage are all on the line.

What makes this more than a simple thriller is the layering. Her partner, Dr. Meera (Pratibha Ranta), begins to waver — torn between love and doubt. The accused isn’t just fighting a workplace system; she’s fighting for the trust of the person who knows her best. The psychological toll of being believed guilty before proven innocent is the heart of this story.

This kind of narrative sits squarely in the tradition of psychological drama — films that prioritize internal conflict and moral ambiguity over external action, making the viewer as uneasy as the protagonist.

Why This Film Matters Right Now

Konkona Sen Sharma has long been celebrated for choosing roles that mainstream Bollywood rarely touches — complex, flawed, deeply human women. Pratibha Ranta, who broke out with Laapataa Ladies, continues her streak of bold, emotionally intelligent choices. Together, they carry a story about false accusations, institutional bias, queer relationships, and the price of public judgement — all in under two minutes of trailer footage.
