Gareth Bale was signed by Real Madrid in a record transfer fee at that time. He was signed for around €100m from Tottenham Hotspur. He has had many ups and downs in his Real Madrid career.

Bale helped the Madrid club to win four Champions League titles and two La Liga trophies, among other trophies. His Copa del Rey final goal against Barcelona and his bicycle kick goal against Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final will be etched in the memory of fans forever.

But, Bale has often been on the sidelines due to his prone to injury nature. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus in 2018, it was expected that Bale would lead from the front, but things went in the opposite direction. He fell out of favour of Zidane and was sent out on loan to his former club Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Real Madrid were hoping that they could finally get Bale’s wages off their book but Bale has made a surprising statement. The European Championship is just around the corner after the 2020-21 season finishes. So, Bale wants to return to Real Madrid after the Euros.

Gareth Bale said: “It’s no distraction for me coming into the Euros.”

“The original plan was only to do a season at Spurs, then after the Euros I’ll still have a year left at Madrid and my plan is to go back. That’s as far as I’ve planned to be honest.”

“Over the last few years, this is probably the most match fitness I’ve had. I’m feeling fresh and ready to go.”

“I always think when things aren’t going too well at a club, it’s nice to get away, especially mentally get away from the club environment. Definitely, it can be a benefit. We focus on these games for Wales, which are very important for us. We forget club life and concentrate on this.”
